Meet Greg
Born and raised in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs, I completed my Diploma of Teaching (Primary) at Burwood State College, later on completing my Bachelor of Education at the same institute, then known as Victoria College, before completing my Graduate Diploma of Education (Computer Education).
Since then, I have spent my whole working life in education in various capacities, teaching, leading, coaching, mentoring, impacting and influencing.
I have a passion for travel both within Australia and overseas. In my travels I’ve covered every continent (except Antarctica), and every corner of the Australian continent, with a great love for the remotest parts of the outback. Some of my travel has been to connect with educators and schools in other countries like USA, Singapore and Finland.
I also have an enduring love for music, with a huge personal music collection. I’m also a member of a rock band with a few mates. We’re all principal class and we’re called the Headmasters Apprentices. Those of you who are bit older will get the connection with the name of a more famous Australian band of the 60’s and 70’s.
On the weekends, I play golf and baseball and I’ve recently taken up Tai Chi to support my physical well-being.
I’ve also recently become a grandad and I’m absolutely loving that new role.
“Curiosity is one of the great secrets of happiness.”
Bryant H. McGill
There’s a famous saying by Thomas Henry Huxley that says,
"Try to learn something about everything
and everything about something."
It’s a quote that resonated with me strongly in my younger years and one that has stuck with me since. Of course, in my youth, I had no idea what the, “everything about something” would be, but I did know that I grew up with intense curiosity and a thirst for knowledge about the world we live in.
I suppose, given that I’ve spent the vast majority of my working life in education, specifically primary education, it’s obvious to assume that “education” is my “everything about something”. Of course, we all know that knowing “everything about something” is impossible but I do know that I’ve never stopped wanting to know more, particularly about education and educational leadership.
